MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202331088439 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on December 23, 2023, for A Novel Boundary Condition For Accurate Fe Simulation Of Temperature Distribution During Resistance Based Local Heating.

Inventors include Prakash Lakshminarayanan; Venkataraman Sudharsanam; Sankar Gopalan; and Balasubramanian Karuppudayar Ramaraj.

The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.

Abstract: In manufacturing, achieving controlled local heating is vital for reasons such as preventing plastic deformation, avoiding softening of case-hardened zones, and preventing undesired phase transformations. Conventional methods involve iterative experiments based on prior experience, but this is not always feasible for all real- time components, posing risks. Despite various Finite Element (FE) approaches, discrepancies persist between predicted and measured temperature distributions. To address this, a novel transiently varying boundary condition is disclosed, mimicking linear heating rates achievable in feedbackcontrolled scenarios. This innovation aims to precisely predict temperature distributions during resistance-based local heating, offering a more reliable alternative to iterative trials and bridging the gap between FE simulations and experimental results.
