MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641057060 A) filed by Poornaprajna Institute Of Scientific Research on May 05, 2026, for A Novel Method For Mixed Metal Oxide Catalyst Mediated Synthesis Of 5-Nonanone.

Inventors include Naga Suresh Enjamuri; Vijay Shidyal; and Sanjeev P Maradur.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: A NOVEL METHOD FOR MIXED METAL OXIDE CATALYST MEDIATED SYNTHESIS OF 5-NONANONE The invention provides a method for synthesizing an improved mixed metal oxide catalyst for synthesizing 5-nonanone from valeric acid. The method includes obtaining a first solution by dissolving cerium precursor in distilled water under room temperature. The first solution is combined with a calculated amount of calcined periclase (MgO like) to obtain a first reaction blend by gradual mixing of calcinated periclase with the first solution. The first reaction blend is subjected to a two-step drying to obtain a dried blend. The dried blend is calcined to obtain a second reaction blend. The second reaction blend is subjected to hydrolysis followed by calcination with a silica source to obtain a mixed metal oxide catalyst. The invention further disclosed a method for mixed metal oxide catalyst mediated 5-nonanone synthesis. The catalyst mediates 100% conversion of valeric acid to 5-nonanone having a selectivity in the range of 92%-98%.
