MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611037067 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on March 26, 2026, for A Polarization-Independent Functionally Switchable Transmittive Type Metasurface Structure.

Abstract: The present invention provides a polarization-independent functionally switchable transmittive type metasurface structure (100) comprising a top layer (1) and bottom layer (2). The top layer (1) is a meta-layer which includes a plurality of meta-surface patches (3) that are arranged in a pixelated manner over said bottom layer. The plurality of meta-surface patches (3) configured said vanadium oxide (VO2) based split ring resonator (SRR) which facilitates the functionally switchable metasurface capable of simultaneously operating as both dual-band transmittive type at 75 GHz (0.650-0.725 THz) and 153 GHz (1.025-1.178 THz) under insulating (I)-state of VO2 to single-band transmittive type 141 GHz (0.653-0.794 THz) under metallic (M)-state of VO2 while maintaining the reflectivity below -10 dB, thereby ensuring a controlled wideband terahertz transmission that achieves high transmittance and polarization-insensitive characteristics which provides flexibility to adjust the transmission performance and has significant value in applications such as sensing, imaging and 6G wireless communication.
