Abstract: A portable food identification and nutritional analysis device and associated method are disclosed. The device comprises an image acquisition module for capturing a digital image of a food item, an illumination module for illuminating the food item during capture, a touch-sensitive display unit, a wireless communication module, and a processing unit coupled to the aforesaid components. The processing unit transmits the captured image, via the wireless communication module, to a remote artificial intelligence-based image recognition and analysis server, which identifies the food item, retrieves nutritional parameters from a nutrition reference database, and generates a nutritional analysis report indicating estimated calorie, protein, carbohydrate, fat, vitamin and mineral content. The generated report is transmitted to the device and displayed on the touch-sensitive display unit, and is optionally stored against a user profile for subsequent retrieval and trend analysis. The device further supports institutional deployment through an authenticated administrator interface.
