Abstract: A portable electrochemical sensor system for screening pollutants in environmental matrices comprises a sample inlet, sample-conditioning module, replaceable electrochemical sensor cartridge, potentiostat or analog front end, processor, memory, user interface and power source. The cartridge includes a working electrode, reference electrode and counter electrode, with the working electrode carrying a sensing layer selected for a target pollutant. The conditioning module can provide filtration, dilution, buffering, reagent addition and flow control. The processor selects a measurement protocol using cartridge identification, acquires voltammetric, amperometric or impedance responses, performs signal and matrix corrections, applies calibration information and evaluates quality-control criteria. The system reports a concentration estimate or screening status with a validity flag and measurement record. The architecture permits different sensing chemistries to be used with a common portable instrument for rapid environmental screening
