Abstract: A Process for Dyeing Textiles using Plant-Based Natural Dyes and Optimized Mordant Systems Abstract The present invention relates to an eco-friendly textile dyeing process utilizing natural colorants derived from Clitoria ternatea (blue butterfly pea) flowers and ginger. The process involves aqueous extraction of bioactive pigments followed by application onto textile substrates using mordants such as alum, urea, or ferrous sulfate individually or in combination through pre-, simultaneous, or post-mordanting techniques. Key process parameters, including mordant concentration (5–15%), temperature (60–80°C), and treatment duration (30– 45 minutes), are optimized to enhance dye–fibre interaction, color strength, and fastness properties. The optimized condition of 15% urea at 70°C for 45 minutes demonstrated improved dye fixation and uniform coloration. The incorporation of ginger extract imparts additional functional properties such as antimicrobial activity. The invention provides a sustainable and green alternative to conventional synthetic dyeing methods, reducing environmental impact while maintaining effective textile performance.
