MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202331048941 A) filed by National Institute Of Pharmaceutical Education Research, Guwahati on July 20, 2023, for A Process For Extracting And Isolating Capsaicinoidss From Bhut Jolokia.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a process for extracting and isolating capsaicinoids from Bhut Jolokia (Capsicum chinense Jacq.), the method comprising the steps of preparing a dry powder of Bhut Jolokia (Capsicum chinense Jacq.); extracting a crude extract from the dry powder by mixing the dry powder in an extraction solvent in a 1:20 (Powder: Solvent) ratio in a round bottom flask to obtain a reaction mixture; stirring the reaction mixture for a time period in the range of 12-24 hours with continuous heating at a temperature in the range of 40-60°C on a magnetic stirrer to obtain an extraction mixture; filtering the extraction mixture and drying to obtain the crude extract; blending the crude extract with silica gel to obtain a slurry; subjecting the slurry to at least three cycles of flash chromatography to obtain purified capsaicinoids. By this process, capsaicinoids can be isolated in a way that produces higher yields than prior art methods. The disclosed processes to almost pure cannabinoids. In addition, the disclosed processes can be carried out easily on a large scale in an economically advantageous manner.
