Inventors include Ghosh, Debaki; and Goyal, Rajesh Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a process for preparation of di-alkyl phosphinic acid, comprising: (i) reacting a hypophosphorus acid or salt thereof with an alpha olefin in presence of an acid and a free radical initiator, said acid being in an amount below stoichiometric amount relative to the hypophosphorus acid or salt thereof to obtain a crude product comprising a mixture of mono-alkyl phosphinic acid and di-alkyl phosphinic acid; and (ii) subjecting the crude product to purification, said purification comprising: (a) washing the crude product with water and optionally, with a dilute acid solution; (b) separating the organic phase from the aqueous phase; and (c) removing the olefin from the organic phase to obtain the di-alkyl phosphinic acid, said step of purification being devoid of treatment of the crude product with a base. The process of the present disclosure provides di-alkyl phosphinic acid with purity upto 100%.
