Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-cyanophenothiazine of the compound of formula (I). The present invention most predominantly relates to the process for the preparation of pure 2-cyanophenothiazine which is industrially viable using alkali or alkali earth metal bromides which is optionally purified. The present invention relates to process for the isolation of pure 2-cyanophenothiazine by using a precipitating agent. The p'resent invention also relates to the pharmaceutical drugs, 2- cyanophenothiazines manufactured from 2-cyanoph'enothiazine, compound offormula-1 in high purity, which is devoid of the impurities.
