Abstract: The present invention introduces a single-step process for converting nitroarenes into amides, such as paracetamol, using a reusable Ni catalyst (Ni-NiO@bTiO2). The reaction is conducted in a suitable solvent medium at 80-130 °C for 6-24 hours, yielding easily separable amides while allowing catalyst recycling. The solvent choice plays a pivotal role in determining the product. Polar protic solvents like 2-propanol, methanol, ethanol, H2O, butanol, or ethylene glycol produce corresponding amines, while polar aprotic solvents like tetrahydrofuran or acetonitrile also yield amines. In contrast, ethyl acetate as the solvent predominantly yields paracetamol or respective amides after 24 hours. The process achieves high efficiency, with paracetamol yields exceeding 95%. Crude paracetamol can be purified through solvent distillation and recrystallization, enhancing purity and cost-effectiveness while being environmentally friendly. The method’s efficiency, high yields, ease of separation, and catalyst reusability make it highly suitable for industrial applications in pharmaceuticals, and fine chemicals.
