MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621101103 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay on August 21, 2026, for A Process For Valorization Of Mango Canning Waste Through Mango Kernel Oil Extraction.
Inventors include Mahajani, Sanjay; and Shirsat, Vikramaditya Rajan.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improvised process for extraction, and controlled crystallization of oil from mango (Mangifera indica) kernel, an agro-industrial by-product generated during mango processing. The present invention provide an integrated, energy efficient, and solvent improvised process for mango kernel oil extraction and crystallization. Oil extraction is carried out at room temperature or mild temperature in a stirred tank reactor with improvised operating parameters such as particle size, solid: solvent ratio, extraction temperature, extraction time, stirring rate followed by vacuum distillation for effective solvent recovery. The developed process achieves an improved oil yield of 12–14%. A significant technological advancement lies in the controlled heating, cooling, and crystallization technique, which enables formation of the desired crystal structure and a low melting point of 33–35°C without the addition of external vegetable oils. The process is scalable, eco friendly that converts agro industrial waste into high value oil suitable for food and cosmetic applications.
