Abstract: TITLE: A PROCESS OF PREPARATION OF NANOFIBROUS MEMBRANE FOR PERIODONTAL REGENERATION AND LOCALIZED DRUG DELIVERY APPLICANT: 1. MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH 2. MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a process for fabricating an electrospun nanofibrous membrane incorporating Terminalia arjuna bark extract for periodontal regeneration. The process comprises weighing powdered Terminalia arjuna bark, extracting the bioactive constituents in distilled water under heating, and filtering to obtain an aqueous extract. Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) and Carbopol 934 are separately dissolved in distilled water, homogenized to form a base gel, and subsequently mixed with the aqueous extract to obtain an extract-loaded gel. Chitosan is dissolved in distilled water to form a homogeneous solution, into which the extract-loaded gel is gradually incorporated under continuous stirring, followed by degassing to obtain electrospinning solution. The solution is loaded into a syringe fitted with a metallic needle and electrospun under controlled voltage, flow rate, tip-to-collector distance, temperature, and humidity. The resulting nanofibers are collected on a rotating collector, vacuum dried, and stored in desiccators to obtain a bioactive electrospun nanofibrous membrane.
