MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531005705 A) filed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on January 24, 2025, for A Raft Foundation With Stiffening Wall For Circular Tanks In Low Soil Bearing Capacity Areas.

Inventors include Vinay Sharma; Somnath Mishra; and Anand Narayan.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: This invention relates to a raft foundation with stiffening wall for circular tanks in low soil bearing capacity areas comprising of a raft foundation integrated to stiffening wall (S) [shear wall] for uniform load distribution, wherein the raft foundation is having profile corresponding to that of the circular tank containing fluid and the stiffening wall (S) is provided across the raft foundation. This invention introduces a stiffening wall concept for base raft foundations of circular tanks in low-bearing capacity areas, effectively eliminating the need for pile foundations. By optimizing load distribution and reducing maximum bearing stress, the system provides significant saving in construction time and cost savings while maintaining structural integrity. This innovative approach represents a new solution to challenges faced in circular tank foundations built on weak soils.
