MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541061620 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras Iit Madras on June 27, 2025, for A Re-Usable Blast Absorption Structure And Method Of Manufacturing Thereof.

Inventors include Phanisri Pradeep Pratapa; and Alagappan Ponnalagu.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a re-usable blast absorption structure and method of manufacturing thereof. The blast absorption structure (100) comprises a core (102) comprising at least one origami unit. The origami unit comprises a bottom face (202) to support the origami unit. A patterned origami (204) attached to the bottom face comprising mountain crease and valley crease. The mountain crease and the valley crease are of opposite chirality and are connected at vertices to form a cylindrical geometry. A top face (206) attached to the patterned origami (204). Thereafter, the blast absorption structure (100) comprises end plate (104/1-104/3) attached to end of the origami unit and configured to uniformly distribute pressure from an incident wave onto the end plate (104/1-104/3). The blast wave is applied on the end plate which is free to move along the axis of the origami unit, while the unit undergoes elastically bistable compression and twisting.
