Abstract: ABSTRACT A REGION-AWARE OCULAR BIOMETRIC RECOGNITION SYSTEM FOR HUMAN RECOGNITION AND A METHOD THEREOF A region- aware ocular biometric recognition system (100) for human recognition and a method (200) thereof are disclosed. The system (100) comprises an imaging device (102) configured to capture an input image containing a facial region of a subject, an ocular region detection module (104) configured to identify an ocular or periocular region of interest, and a preprocessing module (106) configured to generate a normalized ocular-region image. An enhanced texture feature extraction module (108) extracts discriminative texture characteristics from the normalized ocular-region image. A region-aware texture feature modelling module (110) divides the ocular region into a plurality of ocular sub-regions and generates a feature representation. A memory module (112) stores enrolled recognition templates, and a matching module (114) compares the feature representation with the enrolled recognition templates to generate a recognition result. A result generation module (116) generates an identification decision, which is presented through an output device (118).
