Abstract: The present invention provides a reactive oxygen species responsive topical delivery system constituted by an oil-in-water microemulsion of average droplet diameter of from 100 to 250 nanometres and polydispersity index below 0.30, having dissolved in its oil phase luliconazole at from 0.5 to 2 percent and having distributed in its aqueous phase a thioketal-functionalised cerium oxide nanozyme of average crystallite size of from 3 to 10 nanometres bearing a surface-grafted methoxy-polyethylene glycol-silane ligand. The microemulsion is built from glyceryl monolinoleate, a mixed surfactant of HLB approximately 13, and diethylene glycol monoethyl ether cosurfactant. On encountering elevated reactive oxygen species at infected skin, hydroxyl radicals cleave the thioketal, displace the nanozyme from the oil-water interface, locally destabilise the droplet, and effect a burst release of luliconazole at the diseased site, while the exposed cerium oxide surface concurrently dismutates superoxide and decomposes peroxide.
