Abstract: The present invention is related to a segmented misoprostol paper strip for buccal drug delivery. a buccal dosage form of misoprostol, formulated as an edible paper strip designed to improve patient compliance, ease of use, and dosing accuracy. Each strip comprises a core layer containing 400 micrograms of misoprostol or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts, blended with excipients that enable controlled dissolution and enhanced mucosal absorption. The core is encapsulated in a 130–135 GSM edible paper layer with taste-masking and bioadhesive properties, facilitating retention in the buccal cavity without the need for water. The dosage form features pre-scored division marks, allowing for accurate separation of up to six individual doses (totaling 2400 micrograms), suitable for use in medical abortion or obstetric applications. The product is vacuum-sealed for moisture resistance and stability in resource-limited settings.
