Abstract: ABSTRACT A shape memory alloy-based actuator for detecting objects on buoyancy Induce response The present invention relates to underwater robotic surveillance and buoyancy regulation by a shape-memory-alloy-driven auxetic meta-structural actuator. The system comprises a transparent cylindrical case with annular support, a shape memory alloy spring and a mechanical bias spring arranged coaxially, and a guided cylindrical slider coupled to an expandable limb assembly forming a negative Poisson’s ratio structure. Actuation of the shape memory alloy spring varies the external volume to control buoyancy, enabling floating, sinking, and neutral positioning. A cable-driven mechanism converts linear motion into rotation of a camera module for 360° surveillance. The method includes controlled electrical actuation of the shape memory alloy spring with feedback-based regulation to achieve cyclic expansion and contraction for buoyancy modulation and synchronized camera rotation.
