Inventors include Dr. Vanita More Bhambar; Dr. Nilima Thosar; and Dr. Rohan S. Bhambar.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: A Silk Fibroin-Chitosan Based Biopolymeric Obturating Composition for Dental Applications The present invention discloses a biopolymer-based obturating composition comprising regenerated silk fibroin derived from Bombyx mori in a concentration ranging from 20 to 45 percent by weight and chitosan in a concentration ranging from 15 to 35 percent by weight, integrated with barium sulfate in a concentration ranging from 5 to 20 percent by weight and a methanol-induced gel structuring system in a concentration ranging from 5 to 15 percent by weight to form a structurally stable injectable matrix, wherein the composition exhibits antimicrobial activity against Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans with inhibition zones ranging from 14 to 24 millimeters, controlled resorption of 8 to 15 percent at 7 days and 35 to 55 percent at 60 days, anti-inflammatory protection of 70 to 85 percent, and cytocompatibility exceeding 85 percent, thereby providing a diffusion-controlled, biocompatible, and clinically effective obturating system for primary teeth.
