Abstract: ABSTRACT A SINGLE-STAGE MOVING BED BIOREACTOR FOR SIMULTANEOUS REMOVAL OF ORGANIC AND NITROGENOUS COMPOUNDS FROM WASTEWATER The present disclosure relates to a single-stage Moving Bed Reactor system (1000) for the simultaneous removal of organic compounds and nitrogenous compounds from wastewater. The system (100) comprises a reactor vessel (102) having an inlet (104) and an outlet (106). An aeration unit (108) to maintain the dissolved oxygen level within a range of about 1.5 mg/L to 2.0 mg/L. A plurality of carrier media (110) is disposed within the reactor vessel. The carrier media comprising a porous sponge (116) enclosed within a cage (118), provides surface area for the growth of heterotrophic, nitrifying, and denitrifying bacteria. The system further includes a sensing unit (200) to measure operating parameters in real time, a flow regulating unit (300) to maintain a Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) and a control unit to control parameters in real time. The system integrates the activities of heterotrophic, nitrifying, and denitrifying bacteria in a single-stage system.
