Abstract: The present invention provides a smart structural health monitoring system using distributed Internet of Things sensors for continuous assessment of civil, industrial, transport, and critical infrastructure structures. The system includes a plurality of sensor nodes positioned at selected structural locations, an edge gateway, an adaptive baseline modelling module, an environmental compensation module, a damage assessment module, and an alert generation module. The sensor nodes acquire structural and environmental parameters including strain, vibration, tilt, displacement, crack width, temperature, humidity, corrosion, acoustic emission, and load response. The edge gateway performs signal conditioning, sensor validation, feature extraction, and event detection. The environmental compensation module reduces false alarms by distinguishing non-damage effects from actual structural deterioration. The adaptive baseline model represents normal structural behaviour and is updated using validated historical data. The damage assessment module performs multi-sensor correlation to generate a structural health index, estimate probable damage location, and classify severity.
