MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531039237 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Bhubaneswar on April 23, 2025, for A State-Of-The-Art Bubble Shearing Technique To Enhance Boiling Heat Transfer.

Inventors include Mr. Niloy Laskar; and Dr. Mihir Kumar Das.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for energy efficient heat dissipation including in two-phase heat exchangers or boiling systems comprising: step of selectively targeting bubble coalescence-prone regions on surface of said heat exchangers or boiling systems by applying low power consuming 5-25 mW horizontal liquid jetassisted shearing of coalescing vapor bubbles and actively disrupt vapor bubble coalescence for bubble ebullition cycle and detachment for uniform bubble population across the surface and maintain the heated surfaces free of dry-out and related advanced heat dissipation. Thus a two-phase heat exchanger or boiling system including a power efficient heat dissipator is provided which comprises : a heat exchanger system including a two -phase heat exchanger and boiling system; a horizontal liquid jet supply system on the surface thereof adapted for horizontal supply of liquid jet -assisted shearing of coalescing vapor bubbles and actively disrupt vapor bubble coalescence to be carried out at jet velocity in the range of 0.5 to 2 m/s preferably of 1.5 m/s and mass flow rate in therange of 0.09 to 0.38 LPM involving circular jet apertures for improving boiling heat transfer (BHT) by up to 47.5 % and critical heat flux(CHF) enhancement by up to 43 %.
