Abstract: This invention relates to a steam turbine 4 with a novel design to enhance efficiency, reduce thermal stresses, and minimize steam leakage during operation. The turbine features a rotor shaft 41 mounted in a housing module 42 comprising an outer housing 421, inner housing 422, and parallelly split liner 423. These housings are rotationally symmetrical to prevent large deformations due to high steam parameters. The turbine includes a steam flowpath 412 with the plurality of rotor blades 414 and stationary blades 415, where steam enters via admission channels 211 regulated by flow valves 215. The inner housing is cooled by bled steam 222 from a steam extraction point, which also helps in balancing turbine thrust and minimizing leakage. A labyrinth-type shaft seal arrangement 44 minimizes steam losses, and provisions for balancing and borescopic inspection ensure optimal performance. The turbine's design allows for efficient thermal management, especially during transient operations, including fast start-up and shutdown cycles, without exceeding material fatigue limits.
