MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611087194 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu on July 16, 2026, for A Superhydrophilic Hydrogel-Coated Condenser.

Inventors include Shailendra Kumar Shukla; and Vikash Kumar Chauhan.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a superhydrophilic hydrogel-coated condenser (100) for enhancing freshwater production in a solar desalination system for low latitudinal (5°-20°) position. The condenser comprises a basin (3) holds saline or impure water, wherein solar radiation (1) generates water vapour (4). An inclined transparent cover (5) is positioned above the basin (3) to define a condensation chamber. A superhydrophilic hydrogel coating (8) is disposed on an inner surface of the inclined transparent cover (5) facing the condensation chamber to promote filmwise condensation of the water vapour (4). The hydrogel coating (8) facilitates continuous gravity-assisted drainage of the condensate along the inclined surface, thereby minimizing condensate drop-back into the basin and improving freshwater recovery. A condensate collection channel (6) receives the drained condensate, and a freshwater outlet (9) conveys the collected condensate from the collection channel (6) to a storage vessel (10) for subsequent use.
