MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641079021 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Hyderabad on June 26, 2026, for A System And A Method For Wedge-Less Ultrasound Inspection Of Welds.

Inventors include Thulsiram Gantala; Himanshu Saini; and Gangadharan Raju.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a system (100) for ultrasound inspection of at least one weld (108) without wedges and from a single position and transmitting more acoustic energy inside the material. The system (100) includes an ultrasonic transducer (102) and a controller (104) in communication with the ultrasonic transducer (102). The ultrasonic transducer (102) includes a plurality of elements adapted to transmit ultrasonic waves on the at least one weld (108) and receive the ultrasonic waves from the at least one weld (108). The controller (104) is configured to excite, selectively, the plurality of elements to transmit ultrasonic waves towards a region of weld. Further, the controller (104) is configured to generate a plurality of virtual source locations of the region, to be inspected, of the weld, and corresponding one or more geometrical profiles. Furthermore, the controller is configured to determine one or more aperture parameters.
