MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531053156 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology on May 31, 2025, for A System And Method For Activity Recognition Of Mining Dumper.

Inventors include Dewangan, Nagesh; Mohanty, Dr. Amiya Ranjan; and Kumar, Dr. Ranjan.

The application for the patent was published on July 17, 2026, under issue no. 29/2026.

Abstract: A system (100) and method (200) for activity recognition of a mining dumper are disclosed. The system (100) comprises a plurality of uniaxial accelerometers (102), a data acquisition unit (104), and a computing unit (106) configured to capture vibration signals generated during operation of the mining dumper. The computing unit (106) segments the vibration signals, transforms the signals into Power Spectral Density (PSD) image representations within a predefined frequency bandwidth, and extracts characteristic vibrational features including an Engine Fundamental Frequency (EFF) and low-frequency amplitude variations. A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model processes the PSD image representations to classify operational activities including idling, loading, hauling, and dumping. The system (100) further generates an operational profile for monitoring mechanical condition and cycle-time performance of the mining dumper. The classified operational activities are remotely transmitted to a remote cloud server (108) for centralized monitoring and operational management.
