Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for automated medication retrieval and dispensing. The system comprises a plurality of storage compartments arranged in rows and columns, wherein each storage compartment is assigned a unique row-column location identifier. A plurality of medication containers are placed in the storage compartments, and each medication container is provided with a QR code containing medication identity information and the corresponding row-column location identifier. A scheduled medication retrieval request is received through a mobile application. A camera module performs a first QR code scan to identify the required medication container and determine its row-column location. Based on the identified location, a control unit generates robotic movement commands to move a robotic arm mechanism to a corresponding gripping position. Before gripping the medication container, the camera module performs a second QR code scan at the gripping position to verify both the medication identity and the row-column location. The control unit blocks retrieval when any mismatch is detected and allows the robotic arm mechanism to retrieve and deliver the medication container to a dispensing area only upon successful verification. The system may further update retrieval status on a server and transmit alert notifications to a caregiver through the mobile application. The invention improves medication retrieval accuracy, minimizes wrong-medication dispensing, and enhances medication safety in assisted living, hospital, and home healthcare environments.
