Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a computer-implemented method (100) for multilevel image thresholding of a grayscale image. The method (100) comprises receiving, by an image processing module (102), the grayscale image and generating a normalized histogram, initializing, by a candidate initialization module (104), a population of candidate threshold vectors within predetermined threshold bounds, evaluating, by a fitness evaluation module (106), the candidate threshold vectors using an entropy-based objective function, performing, by an American Zebra Optimization Algorithm module (108), global exploration to identify promising candidate threshold vectors, selecting, by an elite selection module (110), elite candidate threshold vectors, refining, by a Learning Cooking Algorithm refinement module (112), the selected elite candidate threshold vectors, updating, by a global best update module (114), an optimized threshold vector, and segmenting, by a segmentation module (116), the grayscale image to generate a multilevel segmented image with improved optimization efficiency, reduced premature convergence, and enhanced segmentation accuracy.
