Abstract: ABSTRACT A System and Method for Intelligent Network Traffic Monitoring and Anomaly Detection The present disclosure relates to a system and method to intelligently monitor network traffic, detect causal-path anomalies, verify uncertain events, and adaptively contain verified network threats. Distributed traffic-sensing nodes collect packet-order, forwarding, queue, timing, and route metadata from physical and virtual network elements. The processor generates privacy-preserving flow sketches and hop-by-hop causal traffic signatures, correlates observations with causal transition identifiers, and adapts telemetry resource allocation dynamically based on the uncertainty of anomalies. A topology-causal graph specifies a first network location with an inconsistent traffic-state transition. In cases where the available evidence is not sufficient, verification microflows that are protocol-compliant are routed along suspected paths and reference paths and the associated latency, loss, reordering, retransmission, queue and route responses are compared. The processor differentiates malicious activity, congestion, routing instability, equipment degradation or configuration error, and enforces a minimum-impact containment rule near the localized divergence point. Post-containment measurements allow refinement of rules, reducing telemetry overhead, false detections, containment latency, and service disruption.
