Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for managing gastrointestinal anastomotic leaks and fistulas. The system comprises an absorbable medicated endo-sponge and a portable negative pressure unit operably connected via flexible drainage tubing. The endo-sponge comprises a bioresorbable porous collagen or gelatin scaffold impregnated with at least one broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, configured to degrade in situ in synchrony with granulation tissue formation, thereby eliminating repeated sponge removal procedures. The portable negative pressure unit delivers controlled negative pressure of -75 to -125 mmHg continuously or intermittently, enabling patient ambulation throughout therapy. The combination of localized antibacterial delivery, absorbable scaffold design, and portable negative pressure therapy produces a synergistic effect resulting in accelerated cavity closure, reduced endoscopic interventions, decreased hospital stay, and improved patient comfort compared to existing endoluminal vacuum therapy systems.
