Abstract: A self-operating ocean surface buoy system (100) for electrochemical carbon removal and temporary storage of captured carbon from seawater is disclosed. The system comprises a flotation body (101), an electrochemical carbon capture unit (102) including cathode assembly (102a), anode assembly (102b), and an electrolyte circulation chamber (102c) configured to convert dissolved carbon dioxide into carbonate and bicarbonate compounds. The system further comprises a renewable energy subsystem (103) having solar and wave-energy harvesting modules with onboard energy storage for autonomous operation. A carbon storage module (104) temporarily stores captured carbon in solid, liquid, dissolved, mineralized, or pressurized form. The system additionally comprises a sensor network (105), an embedded control unit (106), and a wireless communication module (107) for autonomous monitoring, adaptive electrochemical control, remote data transmission, self-cleaning, biofouling detection, and fault management during long- term marine deployment.
