MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124419 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on October 16, 2026, for A System And Method For Self-Referenced Battery-Free Acoustic-To-Radio-Frequency Backscatter Pipeline Monitoring With Passive Event Memory.

Inventors include Dhinesh Babu L D; and Ms Shabreena.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a self-referenced battery-free acoustic-to-radio-frequency backscatter pipeline monitoring system (100) integrating mechanically tuned micro-electromechanical resonators, differential environmental referencing, multi-state nonvolatile event memory, nonlinear acoustic fingerprinting, and spatially coded sensor localization, thereby enabling direct mechanical-to-radio-frequency transduction, common-mode environmental compensation, and persistent historical-event retrieval without continuously powered underground electronics. The system (100) comprises a passive sensor node (106) coupled to a pipeline (108), a primary sensing resonator (112) having a mechanically tuned micro-electromechanical resonator (114) and variable-capacitance element (116), a passive radio-frequency resonant network (118), an environmentally matched reference resonator (120), a balanced radio-frequency impedance architecture (126), a passive mechanical event-memory path (128) having a piezoelectric stress-transduction element (130) and a nonvolatile ferroelectric capacitive switching element (132), and an external radio-frequency interrogator (102) for obtaining mechanical, environmentally compensated, and retained historical-event responses.
