Abstract: A System and Method for Tracing Localized Construction and Demolition Waste The present subject matter discloses a system and a method for tracing localized construction and demolition waste (CDW). The method comprises data acquisition, waste quantification, waste characterization, and waste recycling potential determination of a CDW stockpile. Three-dimensional (3D) point cloud data of the CDW stockpile is acquired using a mobile device equipped with imaging and or 3D scanning capabilities. A waste quantification module pre-processes the 3D point cloud data; identifies and removes a ground plane to extract the CDW stockpile; and estimates a volume of waste present in the extracted CDW stockpile. A waste characterization module identifies and categorizes composite materials of the extracted CDW stockpile using a trained multi-view classification model to determine a material composition. A waste recycling potential module classifies each identified material class into a recyclable or non-recyclable category and determines a recycling potential indicator of the CDW stockpile.
