MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641118224 A) filed by T. Nandhini Devi on October 02, 2026, for A System For Chitosan-Based Mucoadhesive Hydrogel Carrier For Oral Peptide Delivery.

Inventor includes T. Nandhini Devi.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a spatially co-localizing chitosan-based 5 mucoadhesive hydrogel carrier for simultaneous oral delivery of a peptide or protein therapeutic and a permeation enhancer. The carrier comprises a crosslinked chitosan hydrogel matrix exhibiting mucoadhesion through electrostatic interaction with intestinal mucin, incorporating a peptide payload with optional protease inhibitor protection and a co-loaded intestinal permeation enhancer in spatial 10 proximity within the same matrix. A spatial co-localization architecture ensures simultaneous mucosal release of both components during the active adhesion period, generating locally elevated permeation enhancer concentrations concurrent with peak peptide availability at the epithelial surface. An enteric coating provides gastrointestinal protection and site-specific intestinal delivery. Controlled co- 15 release kinetics are regulated through crosslink density and swelling parameters. Mucoadhesive performance and permeation enhancement are assessed through standardized in-vitro and ex-vivo models, providing improved oral peptide bioavailability, enhanced intestinal permeation, prolonged mucosal residence, and reduced systemic dosing requirements.
