MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641087018 A) filed by R. M. D. Engineering College on July 16, 2026, for A System For Iot-Based Smart Vehicular Impact Detection And Emergency Response.

Inventors include Dr. Reeta R; and Dr. S. Prema.

The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an IoT-based smart vehicular impact detection and emergency response system for automated post-accident notification. The system comprises a piezoelectric disk sensor affixed to the vehicle frame, continuously converting collision impact energy into analog signals transmitted to an Arduino UNO microcontroller. The microcontroller evaluates acquired signals against dual predetermined thresholds, generating differentiated responses whereby lower threshold detection initiates a status inquiry to the occupant with manual cancellation capability, and upper threshold detection triggers automated emergency response. A GPS module continuously buffers vehicle location coordinates during transit, providing precise accident location upon impact detection. A GSM module transmits SMS alert messages incorporating GPS coordinates to pre-configured emergency contacts including ambulance services and police stations. The system enables immediate, automated post-accident emergency notification without occupant intervention, providing improved emergency response times, reduced false alerts, enhanced road safety, and cost-effective deployment across diverse vehicle types.
