The temperature monitoring system (104) comprising a coke guide car (106) adapted to receive carbonized coke (202) from an oven (103). The coke guide car (106) comprising a frame (200) defining a chamber (204) having a front face (200-1). The front face (200-1) comprises at least one opening (208) adapted to expose a plurality of portions of a surface of the carbonized coke (202) being pushed through the chamber (204). A temperature sensor assembly (108) disposed at a pre-defined distance from the front face (200-1) and aligned to the at least one opening (208). The temperature sensor assembly (108) is adapted to measure temperature values through the at least one opening (208) of the plurality of portions of the surface associated with the carbonized coke (202) being pushed through the chamber (204).
