Abstract: A TRUE 360-DEGREE MULTI-LAYER SENSOR FUSION SYSTEM WITH ADAPTIVE SENSOR DOMINANCE SWITCHING FOR ROBUST ENVIRONMENTAL PERCEPTION AND NAVIGATION A true 360-degree multi-layer sensor fusion system and method for adaptive environmental perception and intelligent navigation is described by employing confidence-based sensor dominance switching. The system includes a sensor layer module (202) configured to collect environmental perception data with camera sensors, ultrasonic sensors, radar sensors, depth sensing modules, and inertial measurement units, a preprocessing module (203), a feature extraction module (204), a confidence evaluation module (205), an adaptive sensor dominance module (206), and a sensor fusion engine (207). The system selects dominant sensing modalities dynamically and fuses sensors adaptively to generate a unified environmental perception model based on calculated confidence levels. A localization and mapping module (209) performs simultaneous localization and mapping. A navigation and decision module (210) provides navigation and obstacle avoidance output. The method includes sensor data acquisition (101), pre-processing (103), confidence estimation (105), adaptive sensor dominance selection (107-110), sensor fusion (111-112), localization and mapping (113) and navigation decision processing (114-115). The invention improves perception reliability, obstacle detection accuracy, adaptive navigation performance and environmental awareness under various operational and environmental conditions.
