Abstract: ABSTRACT [0011] The main aim of the invention is to provide a visual retrieval mechanism capable of directly indexing medical PDF pages without OCR conversion, thereby preserving complete visual and textual information for accurate clinical knowledge retrieval. The invention introduces a ColPali-based visual retrieval framework that indexes complete medical document pages as image patches. During retrieval, query embeddings are matched with page patch embeddings using a late- interaction MaxSim scoring mechanism. This approach preserves diagrams, medical illustrations, pathological images, and page layouts while retrieving clinically relevant information. The retrieved visual context is subsequently supplied to a Vision-Language Model, significantly improving diagnostic reasoning and reducing information loss.
