Abstract: ABSTRACT ACTIVE RECONFIGURABLE INTELLIGENT SURFACE ASSISTED AMPLIFY-AND-FORWARD RELAY WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR RELIABILITY ENHANCEMENT An Active Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (Active RIS) assisted Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay wireless communication system (10) for reliability enhancement is provided. The system (10) comprises a transmitter (100) configured to generate and transmit an information- bearing signal. The system (10) comprises an Active Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (Active RIS) (200) positioned to receive the information-bearing signal from the transmitter (100), the Active RIS (200) comprising a plurality of reflecting elements, wherein each reflecting element of the plurality of reflecting elements is configured to provide phase adjustment and signal amplification of the information-bearing signal. The system (10) comprises an Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay (300) configured to receive an enhanced signal from the Active RIS (200), amplify the enhanced signal, and forward the amplified signal toward a destination. The system (10) comprises a receiver (400) configured to receive the amplified signal from the AF relay (300) and recover information from the amplified signal.
