Abstract: An adaptive battery thermal management system and method for an electric vehicle are disclosed. A battery pack includes multiple thermally addressable cell groups coupled to respective branches of a coolant circuit having a variable-speed pump, heat-exchange assembly, and independently actuated coolant distribution valves. A controller estimates group-specific thermal states and associated confidence indicators from thermal and electrical measurements, predicts localized thermal demand, and allocates coolant flow subject to hydraulic and thermal constraints. The controller verifies an expected hydraulic response against sensed or inferred coolant-flow information to identify abnormal valve or flow-path behavior. Upon a fault or inadequate estimation confidence, the controller selects a protective circulation configuration and, when necessary, requests charging or propulsion-power limitation. The system thereby enables selective thermal treatment of localized battery regions with fault-responsive control. Accompanied Drawing [FIGS. 1-2].
