Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent crime database and automated crime-pattern matching system for supporting law-enforcement investigation. The system maintains structured historical crime records and processes a newly entered crime report, FIR, or witness statement to extract relevant characteristics such as location, time window, entry method, weapon, target type, and modus-operandi indicators. The extracted characteristics are converted into a machine-comparable representation and compared against historical crime records using a multi-factor similarity mechanism. Candidate records are filtered and ranked according to their degree of correspondence, and a compact set of highly similar cases, including a top-five output in one implementation, is presented to an authorized investigator together with similarity information. The system also supports comparison of records across police stations or jurisdictional boundaries, thereby enabling potentially related incidents to be identified even when individual reports use different wording. The invention is intended to reduce manual case-file searching, improve access to relevant historical information, and assist investigators in identifying recurring crime patterns and possible modus-operandi relationships. The generated matches are investigative leads and remain subject to human examination and verification.
