Abstract: [063] The present invention relates to an adaptive charge management system and method for a tandem photovoltaic device comprising a plurality of photovoltaic sub- cells including at least one perovskite photovoltaic sub-cell. A sensing arrangement obtains operating parameters associated with respective photovoltaic sub-cells, and a controller determines a charge-state relationship therebetween. A controllable charge management network provides at least one selectively variable charge-transfer or charge-extraction path. Upon detection of a charge mismatch condition, the controller dynamically changes an electrical state of the charge management network to modify charge extraction or charge transfer associated with at least one photovoltaic sub-cell. A resulting electrical response is measured and used for further adaptive adjustment. The system accommodates variations in irradiance, spectral distribution, temperature, partial shading, electrical loading, and device ageing while restricting operation according to an electrical or thermal stress condition, thereby reducing charge imbalance and mismatch-induced energy loss and improving photovoltaic operating stability.
