Abstract: The present invention discloses an adaptive multi-metric cost-based routing method for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) for efficient data transmission and energy utilization. The system comprises sensor nodes (1) connected through communication 10 links (2}, wherein each node collects routing parameters including communication distance using a distance measurement module (4}, node congestion using a congestion evaluation module (5}, signal quality in terms of Signal-to- Noise Ratio using a signal quality estimation module (6), and residual energy using a residual energy monitoring module (7). The signal quality is processed using a WEMA 15 processing unit (8) to obtain stable values. The parameters are normalized using a normalization unit (9) and combined using a cost computation module (1 0) with assigned weight factors. A routing decision module (12) selects the next hop based on minimum cost, forming a data transmission path (13) towards a sink node (14). The method enables adaptive routing, reduces congestion, improves reliability, and 20 extends network lifetime
