Abstract: ADAPTIVE TETHER-ASSISTED SENSOR FUSION NAVIGATION ALGORITHM FOR DRONES An adaptive tether-assisted sensor fusion navigation system (100) and method for drone position estimation and payload stabilization in GNSS denied environments is provided. The system includes an inertial sensing module (201) including an IMU (202), a gyroscope (203), and an accelerometer (204) configured to collect inertial sensor data. Tether data is gathered by a smart tether cable assembly (205) comprising a cable tension sensor (206), a cable orientation sensor (207) and an angular displacement sensor (208). The collected data is sent to a flight controller unit (209) via a communication link (218) and processed by a sensor fusion module (210) having a fusion engine. A cable stability evaluation module (211) having stability analysis determines a stability index relating to tether conditions. An adaptive flight correction module (212) with autonomous correction logic for determining a stability index and generating corrective flight commands in response to unstable conditions. The propulsion control system (214) includes motor controllers (215), rotor assemblies (216), and directional stabilization units (217), and executes flight maneuvers to achieve optimum tether tension and payload stability based on stability index and position estimate. A ground control unit (213) has monitoring, command and data interface capabilities. The system provides improved navigation reliability in GNSS-denied environments, continuous payload stabilization, and optimal cable tension through autonomous flight adjustment.
