MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611064595 A) filed by Chandigarh University on May 22, 2026, for Aerodynamic Improvement Of Naca 4412 Airfoil With Vortex Generators And Drag-Modulating Mini Spoilers.

Abstract: The present invention is focus on the aerodynamic enhancement of the NACA 4412 airfoil through the integration of fixed vortex generators (VGs) and retractable mini-spoilers to improve aircraft performance during take-off and landing. The vortex generators are installed on the upper wing surface to energize the boundary layer, delay flow separation, and enhance lift generation at high angles of attack, thereby improving stall resistance and low-speed aerodynamic stability. The retractable mini-spoilers are designed to deploy during landing to intentionally disturb airflow, reduce lift, and increase drag for rapid deceleration and efficient lift dumping. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis and experimental investigations demonstrate that the combined VG and mini-spoiler configuration improves lift-to-drag performance during take-off while enabling controlled drag enhancement during landing. The proposed system offers an effective aerodynamic solution for short take-off and landing (STOL) aircraft and advanced airfoil performance optimization.
