Abstract: Provided are an agent for increasing polyphenol content and an agent for increasing theanine content in leaves of a plant of the family Theaceae, these agents making it possible to safely increase the amount of polyphenols, such as catechins, and/or theanine contained in the tea tree by appropriately spraying or irrigating the plant without adversely affecting the biological tissue of the plant. The agent for increasing the polyphenol content and/or the theanine content in leaves of a plant of the family Theaceae contains at least one compound selected from the group consisting of oxo fatty acids or salts thereof and fatty acid hydroxides or salts thereof.
