MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641046098 A) filed by Nandha Engineering College on April 10, 2026, for Ai Based Intrusion Detection System In Sericulture.

Inventors include P Kokila; S Dhivya; A Jasti; and S Kavya.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: Sericulture farms are highly vulnerable to intrusions by harmful animals such as rats, bacooti rats, and snakes, which can cause severe damage to silkworms and rearing equipment. Manual monitoring methods arc often unreliable, especially during night-time or when the farmer is not present near the shed. To address this issue, the present project proposes an AI- based intrusion detection and automated protection system designed specifically for sericulture environments. The system integrates computer vision, deep-learning algorithms, and embedded hardware to provide continuous, real-time monitoring and rapid protective responses. A Raspberry Pi serves as the central processing unit and is connected to a high-resolution camera module that captures live video frames of the rearing shed. These frames are processed using a trained deep-learning object detection model capable of accurately identifying harmful animals with high confidence. The model performs robustly under different lighting conditions, including low-light areas commonly found inside sericulture sheds. Once an intruder is detected, the system outlines it using a bounding box and label, ensuring precise identification. Following detection, the Raspberry Pi immediately activates an ultrasonic repellent device to drive away the intruder. This automated action significantly reduces the response time and minimizes potential damage. In addition, a wifi module sends an instant SMS alert to the farmer, including detection details and timestamps, ensuring timely awareness even when the farmer is off-site. All detection events and responses are logged for documentation and analysis. This Al-driven system offers a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and easily deployable solution tailored to the needs of sericulture fanners. By automating surveillance, detection, and protection, the system reduces manual labor, prevents silkworm loss, and enhances overall farm productivity. The proposed solution demonstrates a practical and reliable approach to improving security in sericulture environments through intelligent technology.
