Inventors include Dr. Manisha Rajput; Sushilkumar Rathod; Shruti Jadhav; Vrushali Bhoyate; and Prashant Sheshrao Titare.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an intelligent traffic monitoring and enforcement system that integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for real-time detection of traffic violations and vehicle monitoring. The system is designed to address critical road safety issues such as helmetless riding, triple riding, and over-speeding in two-wheelers. The proposed system comprises two main modules: an AI-based violation detection module and an IoT-based speed monitoring module. In the AI module, a camera captures live video streams, which are processed using a Raspberry Pi integrated with a YOLOv8 deep learning model to detect motorcycles, riders, and helmet usage. Custom logic is applied to identify violations including absence of helmet and multiple riders beyond permissible limits. Upon detection, evidence in the form of images or video clips is captured and stored for verification. In the IoT module, vehicle speed is measured using two infrared (IR) sensors placed at a predefined distance. An ESP32 microcontroller calculates the speed based on the time difference between sensor triggers and displays the result on a connected display unit. The system operates in near real-time, ensuring efficient, accurate, and real-time monitoring. The invention offers a scalable, automated, and cost-effective solution for smart traffic management, reducing human intervention and improving enforcement accuracy. It can be deployed in urban and semi- urban environments to enhance road safety and support the development of intelligent transportation systems. The system uniquely integrates AI-based vision detection with IoT-based speed monitoring on low-cost embedded platforms, enabling scalable and real-time traffic enforcement.
