MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611108354 A) filed by Neurowings Private Limited on September 09, 2026, for Ai-Enabled Multi-Modal Underwater System For Submerged Human Body Detection And Forensic Identification In Low-Visibility Environments.
Inventors include Neha Singh; and Vaibhav Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: An AI-enabled multi-modal underwater robotic system is disclosed for detecting submerged human bodies in low-visibility aquatic environments using a sequential acoustic-to-optical perception architecture. A mechanical scanning Ping360 sonar performs wide-area acoustic localization, and a fine-tuned YOLOv8m detector identifies a candidate region. The ROV is guided toward the candidate, after which an Insta360 X3 optical verification subsystem uses cross-polarization imaging to suppress backscatter and improve close-range visibility. Enhanced optical information is processed by a further YOLOv8m detection stage, and a sequential fusion module confirms the target when acoustic and optical detection criteria are satisfied. A six-thruster vectored propulsion system controlled through a Pixhawk flight controller provides underwater maneuverability, while a Raspberry Pi 5 edge-computing unit performs onboard processing. Synchronized sonar imagery, enhanced optical frames, confidence information and vehicle telemetry are communicated to a surface control station for operator monitoring, alerting and forensic documentation.
