Abstract: ABSTRACT [0020] The invention concerns a multifunctional, AI-enabled portable cartridge-based multiparameter water-quality screening device named HydroScan AI, designed for rapid, decentralized testing of several water-quality parameters. It includes an imaging chamber, a multiparameter sensing cartridge, controlled illumination means, a smartphone interface, an electronic control and power module, and an AI-based image analysis system. The multiparameter sensing cartridge contains separate reagent/sensing zones that correspond to particular water-quality parameters and a reference zone for normalization purposes. Introduction of the water sample into the cartridge results in interactions with sensing reagents specific to each parameter, yielding measurable optical signals. Controlled illumination in the imaging chamber creates standardized imaging conditions, and the smartphone camera captures the spatial distribution of colorimetric responses. Collected images are further analyzed using an AI-based analysis method, which is capable of identifying sensing zones, compensating for illumination and imaging variation with the help of reference zone, extracting necessary colorimetric data and estimating values of water-quality parameters. Thus, HydroScan AI incorporates sample manipulation, multi-parameter chemical sensing, optical imaging, self-calibration through internal reference and AI-based interpretation all-in-one portable platform. The invention offers a compact and user-friendly tool for rapid water-quality screening without need for lab instrumentation.
